Burrell Golf has started again. The 2009 season has begun and already the Bucs are well underway this year. After losing big impacting players Derek Jones and Colin Wilson to graduation, the team has struggled to fill their spots. Sophomore Sam Barrett commented, “The team is doing well DSC_0007.JPGfor how young the majority of the players are. This year is a developing year for most of the players. We hope to progress and do better next year.”

Even though the team may not be as successful as they were last year, losing seniors forces underclassmen to step up and take on bigger roles on the team.
Another sophomore, Frank Trozzi, is a returning player to the team, “I play a bigger role this year because we have only a few seniors, and a lot of freshmen.”
New to the team this year was Junior Andrew Peck. Assistant Coach Mr. Croushore said that having Peck on the team was a good addition. Other stand out players he mentioned include returning players Trozzi and Senior Brian Haley.

So far this year, the team is 3-5. September 22 marked the halfway point of their season against Freeport. The day before, Mr. Croushore said that they competed in an individual tournament.

He commented, “Many of them played well, and I hope that it gave them confidence for today’s match (against Freeport).”
Even though the team is struggling, players are confident that this is just a building year, and that they will be more successful as younger players gain experience. Also, this year is focused mainly on making the underclassmen step up and help to carry the team. The future of Burrell Golf is looking good.
